Alright, a big caveat here – I’ve really come to like anime that end. I’ve been there, watching over 2000 episodes of anime that “never ended and continued on.” That said, there are only a certain subset of anime that lend themselves to this kind of thing. The easiest example would be a slice of life anime. And then, there’s Mushi-shi.
Mushi-shi would be perfect for this kind of thing. Overall, its plot is fairly formulaic, but the entirety of Mushi-shi is everything that happens in between. Really, this anime is very episodic, much like western TV shows. Each episode is a different story. And yet, the stories themselves are extremely varied. Some are happy, some sad, others bittersweet, and a variety of emotions in between. It’s about the daily struggles of people having to coexist with Mushi. Sometimes it’s a mere misunderstanding, other times, it’s brought about by willful ignorance. Again, it’s always different.
